Anytime you open burn call the non-emergency number to notify us of the location so that the address can be flagged and false 911 reports can be avoided. 

The number is 540-586-7827.

Test of Emergency Alert

On Wednesday, November 9th the federal government will test the Emergency Alert System EAS nationwide.  The test will broadcast on local television stations at 2 p.m.  This will only be a test of the system.

             Welcome to Bedford County Department of Fire & Rescue 

Bedford County Department of Fire & Rescue is a combination department that currently has more than 750 dedicated volunteers and 35 career staff serving the citizens and visitors of Bedford County in a wide-range of emergency services.  Staffing 24 fire and emergency medical services agencies with 30 stations placed strategically throughout the county requires the hard-work and dedication of both career and volunteer personnel.  Bedford County’s Department of Fire & Rescue volunteer and career members are proud men and women who dedicate their time and talents to protect the lives and property of the citizens and visitors of our beautiful community. Trained to state and national standards, our members respond to more than 5,000 EMS and 2,000 fire incidents each year.

How Can You Serve Your Community?......Volunteer!

Volunteers are people just like you who are willing to devote time and energy every day to saves lives and property. You don’t need to have prior training, just a desire to learn. There is always room for one more good person on our team.

Becoming a volunteer will allow you to do things that you never imagined.

Bedford County’s Fire Station and Rescue Squad volunteers do not receive a salary but volunteering can offer you much, much more than monetary rewards….

Business Compliance

Is your business in compliance with Federal and State Requirements for reporting Hazardous Materials?  Did you know that every year that some businesses are required to report chemicals and hazardous materials to the local fire department, local emergency planning committee (LEPC) and the state?  This is under the SARA Title III Program for
Section 311 - Material Safety Data Sheet Submission, & Section 312 - Emergency and Hazardous Chemical Inventory Reporting.  If your business uses any chemicals or hazardous materials, this link is valuable!  Click here to insure that you are in compliance with regulations and that responders are prepared for potential responses to your facility:

Weekly Trivia

Every week Bedford County Department of Fire & Rescue will post a trivia question related to fire or rescue services and give Bedford County Department of Fire & Rescue Volunteer Members an opportunity to WIN a GIFT CERTIFICATE to a local restaurant.  To answer the question, the participant must go to our facebook page http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001958457204 and inbox "Firefighter Bedford".  The first volunteer member (not employeed by Bedford County) to answer the question right will receive a gift certificate.  Check back every week to see the new question and the name of the winner from the previous week.  Good luck!
